Hyères

From city to island

City and nature in harmony

A town of art and history set in a natural environment, Hyères is the departure point for the famous islands of Porquerolles, Port-Cros and Le Levant. Explore the city and the islands by their unmissable sites, immersing yourself in small paradises on land and sea, overlooking the Mediterranean open sea. In the narrow streets of Hyères, on the trails of Giens and Port-Cros, on the picture-postcard beaches of Porquerolles and Le Levant, you’ll enjoy an exotic journey under an azure blue sky.

The archaeological site of Olbia

Situated on a slight promontory by the sea, Olbia is the only surviving example, preserved in its entirety, of a network of Greek fortress-colonies founded by Marseilles from the 4th century BC onwards. The first Olbians were soldier-colonists, fishermen and farmers, whose main mission was to secure maritime trade.

The remarkable gardens of Hyères

The town has three sites classified as “remarkable gardens”. The 7-hectare Olbius Riquier park is ideal for children, with its games, toy train, merry-go-round and mini zoo. Overlooking the medieval town, the Castel Sainte-Claire park, redesigned by novelist Edith Wharton, is home to subtropical species from South America and Australia, ensuring year-round flowers.

Further up, the Parc Saint-Bernard, at the foot of the Villa Noailles, stretches out in terraces along the hillside.
