Summer evenings at Châteauvallon

Stage with view

A national stage like no other

Created in 1964 in the heart of a 200-hectare forest, Châteauvallon is a cultural center located in the commune of Ollioules. Its architectural ensemble includes an outdoor amphitheater seating over 1,100, and an indoor theater seating around 400. Internationally renowned artists from all disciplines have graced the stage at various festivals: Paul McCartney, Joan Baez, choreographers Maurice Béjart, Angelin Prejlocaj, Batsheva Dance Company, as well as La Horde and the biggest names in flamenco led by Juan Carmona…

5 good reasons to come

  1. Discover exceptional artists on dance, circus or concert evenings
  2. Get the evening off to a good start with simple, local dishes on the refreshment bar terrace.
  3. Take a seat in the unique outdoor amphitheatre, overlooking the pine forest
  4. Finding the atmosphere of a summer night the most beautiful of backdrops
  5. Throw your cushion on stage to greet the performers at the end of the show

And in the heart of the pine forest, an amphitheatre!

Châteauvallon doesn’t reveal its charms at first glance. It reveals itself, little by little. First there’s the winding road, then the stone steps, and finally the view. Enjoy a focaccia, salad or fiadone at the refreshment bar, and appreciate the grace of the place. Below, you can now see the stone amphitheatre – a sixty-year-old antique – the prodigiously black stage and the metal structures of the ramp. A few metres further on, your gaze is caught by the central, masterly element of the venue: the pinewood backdrop. The artists will play with it, sometimes accommodating the elements of wind, heat and humidity. On stage, the magic happens: the artists move you, the light effects fascinate you, the music bewitches you.

Summer festival program

Cutting-edge multidisciplinary programming

Every summer for many years now, Châteauvallon has celebrated the living arts with its eagerly awaited summer festival in July. Theater, dance, circus, opera and performances: Charles Berling, director of the Châteauvallon-Liberté national stage, and his team offer a program that promises rare and powerful moments at the cutting edge of artistic creation. Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned theatre-goer, let yourself be transported by the magic of a summer evening in the outdoor amphitheatre, accompanied by the song of cicadas and a starry sky.

Focus on

Ollioules

The Châteauvallon stage is often associated with the city of Toulon. However, it’s actually located in the commune of Ollioules, just a few minutes’ walk from the Celto-Ligurian oppidum of La Courtine, high above the town center.
