Village atmosphere
Today, the weather is fine and you’re tempted to get away from the city and immerse yourself in nature. Just 8 kilometers from Toulon, the Provencal village of Le Revest, nestled in the heart of the Monts Toulonnais, is revealed from the top of its limestone rocky outcrop. The village square, adorned with plane trees and terraces, is the epicenter of Revestois life, suspending time and inviting you to take in the peaceful surroundings.
Climb to the tower
To know Le Revest is to have “climbed” the tower: standing at the top of the village, it dominates the surrounding valley and offers unrivalled sea views. You begin your ascent along the gentle slopes of the lanes, taking pleasure in observing the little houses with their colorful facades, the arbors sheltering pretty terraces where life is good. Along the way, you’ll come across some beautiful plants: bougainvilleas, prickly pears, plumbagos and night beauties are skilfully staged by the locals.
As you stroll along, the ever-present hills give the village a taste of the end of the world. Once at the top, you’ll realize the site’s unique location: from the tower, you can admire the 360° panorama and the breathtaking view of Toulon, the sea, Mount Faron, Mount Caume, the dam and its lake. Just a few minutes from the city, nature is everywhere you look and the atmosphere is so peaceful. The Saracen tower, a 13th-century medieval keep listed as a historic monument, is at the center of the “castrum de Revesto” fortified site. The village church, castle and dovecote are all places you’ll be delighted to explore as you continue your journey.
Culture revestoise
Le Revest, a village with typical Provencal DNA, has attracted and inspired many famous painters, poets and writers: Baboulène, Giacobazzi, Trofimoff, Chabaneix, Decaris, George Sand and Léon Vérane.
Today, the Maison des Comoni – le Pôle, a nationally-recognized stage, offers a year-round program of plays, concerts, circus, street and digital arts, and painting exhibitions in tribute to the artists who have come to settle and create in Le Revest.
Focus on
the lake
Created by a dam built in 1912, Lac du Revest is fed by several springs: la Foux, le Figuier, les Platanes, le Rabas, le Rérabas…whose reservoir supplies the village and part of Toulon with drinking water.
Whether you’re looking for a peaceful stroll or a spot of fishing, you’ll find yourself in the heart of a lush, rolling landscape, ideal for relaxing on the edge of this fascinating, emerald-hued expanse.
