Le Mourillon

A seaside village in the city

Comme un air de vacances

South of Toulon, on the seafront, Mourillon is the city’s unmissable coastal district. Its village life, punctuated by a tasty market and numerous festive events, its squares adorned with lanterns and bustling terraces, give it the typical charm of a small seaside resort. Toulon residents and visitors alike enjoy strolling through the area all year round, as well as taking advantage of its beaches: explore this picturesque and exotic district, so close to the city.

The origins

Le Mourillon – a diminutive of mourre, Provençal for “snout”, to designate the peninsula – overlooks the great harbor and enjoys a strategic position: as evidenced by Fort Saint-Louis and the Tour Royale, it has historically been Toulon’s maritime sentinel. A neighborhood where naval officers, moccots* and vacationers mingled, today it’s a lively district, embodying the gentle southern way of life.

A popular spot for Toulon residents

All year round, the Mourillon beaches are a favorite meeting place for walkers, sports enthusiasts, families and young Toulon residents. Just a stone’s throw from the city, you’ll enjoy strolling through the landscaped gardens by the sea, taking the kids for a ride on the merry-go-round, or setting off for your morning run, swimming in the summer months or lunching in a waterfront restaurant. From Mitre beach to the coves of Cap Brun, the Mourillon coastline – adorned with palm trees, pines and vineyards – winds its way along the Mediterranean.
