Hyères

Provence between land and sea

Mediterranean beauty

Testimony to 2400 years of history, Hyères has shaped itself through its multiple identities: a medieval town with Italian charm on the Mediterranean coast, sublimated by a preserved natural area, from peninsula to island. A city of art with a dynamic cultural life, the city of palm trees remains a paradise for water sports and outdoor activities. Culture buffs, hikers and lovers of the deep blue sea, soak up Hyeres gentle way of life and explore an exceptional terroir, a blend of historical heritage and modernity.

A stroll through the heart of the city

In the medieval streets of its historic center, Hyères reveals a Provencal village atmosphere. This atmosphere of dolce vita pervades you, whether you’re sitting on a café terrace, strolling through the market or meeting local artisans. In the heart of a mosaic of ancient facades with pastel-colored shutters, as you turn a bend in an arched passageway, climb the heights of the town to the castle, and enjoy the sublime panoramic view of the islands and the deep blue sea.

The islands, natural splendors

The islands of Hyères, precious jewels of the Mediterranean Sea, offer unique landscapes in a preserved natural environment. Porquerolles is an invitation to get away from it all: its white sandy beaches and hiking trails promise a moment out of time. Port-Cros, a true marine sanctuary in the heart of the national park, fascinates with its translucent waters and dazzling underwater fauna. Ile du Levant, the cradle of naturism, remains wild and peaceful, an exceptional place for contemplation.

Giens, an exotic piece of the world

The Giens peninsula

Linked to Hyères by its two sandy inlets hemmed with celadon waters, Giens is an idyllic setting for seaside relaxation and water sports. Its coastal paths reveal rare landscapes between wild coves and craggy rocks, and its authentic little village is an invitation to the Provencal art of living and suspended time.

Museum tour

Hyères’ museums offer visitors rich art collections, enhanced by sumptuous settings. Housed in the former Banque de France, in the heart of the city, the musée des Cultures et du Paysage (the Cultures’ and Landscape museum) showcases both renowned and lesser-known artists.

Themusée du Niel (The Niel museum), nestled in the eponymous coastal shelter, is home to the great masters of the second half of the 20th century; the Villa Carmignac exhibits its contemporary masterpieces in the splendid, unspoilt setting of the island of Porquerolles.
